loss of eco-tourism opportunities
Due to their exclusive nature, in addition to their revered reputation within modern society, tigers are a popular tourist attraction. This acts as a source of income for communities with few alternatives. There are a number of local communities, such as Srepok Wilderness Area, which are developing plans in conjunction with government bodies and NGO's to create ecotourism opportunities revolving around tigers. However, the extinction of the species will remove these sources of income from several communities which severely depend on them, greatly impacting their quality of life.
