INDIVIDUALS
Although the impact of individuals on solving the issue is severely limited in comparison to the actions of governments and non-government organisations, individuals are still able to contribute towards achieving the goal of preventing tiger extinction and restoring the species to its natural state.
- Selective Purchases: Products such as toilet and tissue paper are created through the destruction of forests, many of which serve as habitats for not just tigers, but a variety of other species, including elephants, rhinos and orangutans. By choosing recycled tissue and toilet paper products, individuals, as consumers, are able to influence the common destruction of habitats for commercial gain; retailers will respond to changes in consumer behaviour and products harming the tiger population will gradually fall out of favour
- Word of mouth: While the issue of the declining global tiger population has reached extreme severity, a wide portion of society is unaware of the seriousness of the issue. By informing others of the existence and extent of the issue, individuals are able to further the global campaign to restore tiger populations through the rallying of larger and stronger support of corrective action.
- Donations: Donations are one of the most significant acts which individuals can undertake to benefit the restoration of the global tiger population. In addition to donating to a tiger research fund, including World Wildlife Fund and Big Cat Rescue, individuals are able to virtually Adopt a Tiger, which serves to fulfill a collection of goals such as reducing the levels of poaching and trade of live tigers, as well as ensuring that conservation laws are enforced.
- Assisting groups: Assisting groups is another action with a substantial impact that can be undertaken by any individual. Participating in the activities of groups, such as fundraising, public demonstrations and awareness campaigns greatly benefit the impact which these groups are able to make; the achievements of the majority of activist groups are owed largely to the aid of individuals.
evaluation
While individual impact is typically less significant in comparison to the actions of groups and governments, individuals are still able to contribute to the overall campaign through a variety of means, all of which benefit the overall tiger population restoration project. While an individual is unable to make a profound impact alone, the collective effort of the global population is just as impactful, if not more, than the actions of larger organisations.
